Water supply in Selangor, Putrajaya slowly returning to normal

PUTRAJAYA: Water supply in four major districts, which were disrupted affecting 337,000 consumers, is slowly returning to normal.

Kumpulan Air Selangor Corporate Communications Department head, Amin Lin Abdullah however said the restoration process may take some time as it involved water distribution to a vast area consisting of a large number of people.

He said that among the districts affected by the water disruption were Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Petaling and Sepang.

"The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant resumed its operation from 2.30pm yesterday after cleaning and treating of the contamination which occurred last week.

"Many areas have started receiving water supply. We also hope residents in the areas which have yet to receive water will remain patient as restoration works are underway," he said.

He said consumers can contact Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) via the toll free line 1-800-88-5252, or its smartphone application 'mySYABAS' or send an email to www.syabas.com.my if they need water delivered to their area.

Meanwhile, he said detailed investigations are being carried out to identify the cause of the river contamination and on the Semenyih Hi-Tech area which is believed to be responsible for the contamination.

"Apart from Syabas, investigations are also being conducted by Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and the Department of Environment," he added.
