Shafie Apdal's new party to be unveiled next week

PENAMPANG: The unveiling of the new party helmed by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to take place as early as next week.

"We believe that it will be in the first or second week of October ... the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has asked us to give them time to handle the logo and name change," said Penampang Member of Parliament (MP) Darell Leiking, referring to the Sabah-based party they will take over.

Darell was speaking after the handing over of his duties as PKR Penampang chief to Kenny Chua, who was his deputy, following his departure from PKR.

"We have no ill feelings towards his (Darell's) departure; he might move to a different house but still in the same 'neighbourhood' which is the Opposition; maybe a smaller bungalow though.

"We will work hand in hand to fight Barisan Nasional," said Chua.

Darrell and Chua however kept mum on Moyog assemblyman Terrence Siambun's stance, who was rumoured to be leaving PKR too to join Shafie and Darell.

Darell described the collaboration with Shafie as an 'east coast and west coast partnership' representing different natives.

"We have to build a new type of political culture. It's no longer about race but about (fighting) for Sabah.

"Shafie and I see an opportunity for us to attract the Chinese who are looking for mature, consistent politicians," said Darell.
