Storm wreaks havoc, damages vehicles at Bintulu factory

BINTULU: Heavy rain compounded by strong wind wreaked havoc at a fertiliser production factory here when building frames smashed into several vehicles at the premises today.

Checks by the Fire and Rescue Department showed seven cars and six cranes were damaged in the 2pm incident.

The department were alerted to the incident after pictures of the frames smashing onto the vehicles went viral on social media.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Farhan Sufyan Borhan said the frames were the structure of the building, which is in the midst of construction.

Farhan said no one was injured in the incident as construction work for the day was halted following the bad weather.

“A total of eight firemen in two engines were despatched to the scene to offer assistance to the factory workers in removing the frames,” he said.
