Health Ministry facilities in Kelantan and other states spared flood havoc, says minister

PASIR MAS: All Health Ministry facilities in Kelantan and other states were not affected by the current northeast monsoon season.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said he was informed that the operations of health facilities in the states affected by floods had resumed as usual.

"I was told that roads leading to a few health clinics, including in Kelantan, had been inundated. However, this did not cause any impact on services," he said.

He said this to reporters after visiting flood victims at the SMK Baroh Pial relief centre here today.

He was accompanied by the Health Ministry's deputy director-general (public health) DatukDr Norhayati Rusli and state health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin.

On Covid-19 cases at flood relief centres, Dr Dzulkefly said Kelantan recorded 15 cases since the first wave of floods in November.

However, he said the cases were under control and all victims were found to have either stage one or two of the virus.

"In Kelantan, we have recorded 15 Covid-19 cases and most of the cases were from Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah.

"The Covid-19 cases in the state, however, do not worry us as it is under control," he added.

He praised the Kelantan health department for making early preparations to face the floods.

"I congratulate the state director Dr Zaini and his team for their prompt flood preparations in terms of facilities, stimulation exercise and assets.

"The ministry realises that Kelantan is urgently in need of more assets like four-wheel-drive vehicles as most of the flooded areas are difficult to reach with normal vehicles.

"Therefore, we will consider the request by Kelantan and, hopefully, will be able to mobilise soon the vehicles and other assets that are needed," he added.

Asked about the possibility of the health staff, especially in Kelantan, suffering from stress from working long hours during the flood season, he said the ministry was planning a rotation work system to ease their burden.
