Police capture main suspect behind teen girl's abduction in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested the main suspect behind the abduction a 15-year-old girl at Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras last Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided an apartment unit at Taman Koperasi Maju Jaya in Cheras at 3.30pm on Monday.

The 27-year-old man was arrested. A search of his home turned up a parang, believed to have been used in the girl's abduction and in several robbery cases.

Police also found two identification cards belonging to other people.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan said checks showed that the man, who is a drug addict, had a criminal record for drug abuse. He is also an ex-convict.

After questioning him, police subsequently nabbed an Indonesian man at Taman Minang in Cheras who had allegedly purchased stolen items from the suspect.

“The arrest was made today at 5.30pm. We recovered three watches, a tablet, a hard disk and a mobile phone.”

Police, said Othman, have also identified the main suspect's accomplice involved in the abduction and will be making an arrest soon.

The Form Three student of SMK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, was reportedly abducted at her home while waiting for her school van last week.

She was found hours later by a classmate’s family, who had spotted the girl walking by the roadside around 300 metres from her family’s home at 2.20pm.

Upon being reunited with her family, she had revealed that the men who abducted her had waved a parang in her direction before forcing her onto their motorcycle.

She claimed that she was taken to an unknown location, where she was locked up.

Her captors abandoned her when news of her disappearance spread rapidly on social media.
