Two brothers among 50 picked up by Terengganu police in Ops Tapis dragnet

BESUT: Two brothers, both civil servants, were among 50 people detained for suspected drug related offences during Ops Tapis at several villages near here.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the duo, aged 28 and 33, were nabbed at their home in Kampung Bukit Kenak at 10am on Tuesday.

He said they were taken to the Besut police station and later tested positive for methamphetamines.

"After further checks, both of them confessed to being involved in drug abuse since last year," he said, adding that one of them is a general assistant while another a driver.

He said 23 policemen and five officers from the National Anti-Narcotics Agency were involved in the 12-hour operation.

"We arrested 50 people, aged between 18 and 53. All of them have been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations," he said, adding that the suspects were being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
