Dr Fauziah released and safe, says Foreign Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian volunteer to Gaza Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan has been released and is safe, said the Foreign Ministry today.

In a statement earlier, the ministry said she will be returning home upon her own request from Tel Aviv, Israel via Bangkok, Thailand.

On Wednesday, a boat carrying 13 volunteers, including Dr Fauziah, was seized by Israeli forces off the Gaza coast.

The participants were on the Women’s Boat to Gaza mission on board the Zaytouna-Oliva ship when they were detained by Israel Defence Forces and taken to the port of Ashdod in Israel.

Dr Fauziah is part of the group heading to Gaza to offer humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.

She is also a consultant at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur and is on the board of trustees of Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare).
