BELURAN: Three occupants of a van were killed, and four people in two other vehicles were injured in a collision here last night.
District police chief Superintendent Shivananthan Velautham said the accident occurred at about 9pm at Km60 at Jalan Beluran here.
Only one of the dead has been identified so far – 18 year-old van driver Ahmad Idham Ghani Diding from Kg Ulu Sapi in Sandakan. Police are still trying to ascertain the identities of his fellow travellers.
The accident occurred when the trio’s Nissan Vanette, driving from Sandakan, was struck head-on by a Toyota Land Cruiser coming from the opposite lane.
Three persons in the Toyota suffered minor injuries and received treatment at hospital.
The driver of the third vehicle, M. Amin Juani, whose car rammed into the Nissan Vanette when it was struck by the Toyota, survived. His condition is not known.
