Unified opposition front, Mat Sabu to extend olive branch to PAS

CHANGLUN: Pakatan Harapan will continue to usher PAS back into the opposition pact to ensure that the plan to take on Barisan Nasional on a one-on-one fight is successful.

This, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) president Mohamad Sabu said was important despite the Islamist party's refusal to join forces with DAP, one of the component parties in the coalition.

Mohamad, who is popularly known as Mat Sabu, said PAN has sat down with PKR and DAP to discuss the matter and would soon work to convince PAS to take part in the plan to ensure a unified opposition front.

“Whatever PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin said before was his personal opinion. We will offer our hand to PAS, whether they want to take it, it is up to them,” he told newsmen after attending the Kedah Pakatan Harapan convention here this morning.

It was reported that PKR, PAN and DAP would sit together to discuss one-on-one fight against BN in the next general election to prevent multi-cornered fight.

The joint statement from Pakatan Harapan was signed by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Mohamad.

However, Hashim in a statement two days ago reportedly said that PAS would never cooperate with DAP again and was willing to face a three-cornered fight in the next polls.

He was quoted as saying that PAS-DAP tie was beyond reconciliation because DAP reneged on its agreement to cooperate with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Apart from that, Mohamad said that Pakatan Harapan would also hold discussion with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) on the one-on-one contest against BN to prevent three-cornered fight with the newly formed party.

Meanwhile, PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli in his speech said discussion on seats allocation among the opposition parties was expected to be completed by year end.

He added that the opposition pact could only win in the next general election if they were in sync and not speak negatively about other opposition parties eventhough they were not part of Pakatan Harapan.
