Man walks into police station, claims he's a KL top cop, gets arrested

JOHOR BARU: A 22-year-old unemployed man who brazenly walked into a police station and claiming to be a high-ranking police officer, got himself arrested today.

Iskandar Puteri police chief Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad said in the 1.15pm incident, the man, clad in plainclothes, stepped into the Nusa Bestari police station here and introduced himself as a senior police officer from Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

He told the policemen on duty that he is the Criminal Investigations Department chief, holding the rank of Deputy Superintendent.

When the policemen asked for his police identification card, the man excused himself and proceeded to the toilet.

"When the suspect exited the toilet, he went straight towards a car outside the police station.

"Quick action by the policemen led to the arrest of the man," said Noor Hashim.

Following further checks, police seized a pair of handcuffs and cover, two handphones, a sling bag, a metal baton and cover, a sticker bearing the Royal Malaysian Police emblem, keys to a Perodua Alza.

Noor Hisham said the suspect did not possess any criminal record and tested negative for drugs in a urine test.

He has been remanded to assist investigations under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant.
