Search for missing paraglider in PD enters second day

PORT DICKSON: Search and rescue efforts for a missing motorised paragliding operator who was last seen crashing into the sea at Batu 1 here yesterday have entered a second day.

Port Dickson district police chief superintendent Adzli Abu Shah said that as of now, the search will continue despite no missing person report having been lodged which can be linked with the incident.

"Search efforts resumed this morning at 9am, involving 72 rescue personnel comprising the police, fire and rescue, the Port Dickson Municipal Council, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Civil Defence Department (APM).

The gender and identity of the missing person is yet to be determined.

"We hope that those who have a missing family member, friend or relative, or owns paragliding equipment (which is currently missing), will come forward and help in the investigation," he said in a statement this morning.

In the 10.30am incident yesterday, the paraglider was seen falling into the sea some 1.5km offshore, and floating for 30 minutes before vanishing.

Search and rescue efforts were subsequently launched, but efforts were called off when night fell at 7pm.
