Two brothers nabbed after snatch theft video goes viral

SHAH ALAM: Police today arrested two brothers in connection with a snatch theft incident that went viral, where a CCTV recording captured one of them allegedly running over a 56-year-old woman in Kapar, Klang, last week.

The 20-second recording on the incident was widely circulated on the social media several days ago.

Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yusoff Mamat said a 28-year-old suspect was arrested at his house in Kampung Rantau Panjang while his elder brother, aged 32, was picked up somewhere in the village between 2am and 4 am.

The 32-year-old suspect was believed to be the man captured by the CCTV.

"At the suspect's home, the police found a motorcycle and helmet believed to have been used in the snatch theft incident. Also seized were several personal items belonging to the victims," he said in a statement here today.

Yusoff said, on Oct 20 at 4pm, the woman was on her way home from Kapar Health Clinic when she was attacked from behind by a snatch thief on a motorcycle.

The suspect came from behind and tried to snatch the victim's handbag causing her to fell on the ground.

"Because he failed to take her handbag, the suspect turned back, ran over the victim and took the handbag before escaping," he said.

Yusoff said the victim sustaining head and body injuries, received outpatient treatment at the clinic and is in stable condition.

Both men have been remanded under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt in commiting robbery and face a jail term of up to 20 years and fine or whipping upon conviction, he added. -- Bernama
