3 hit with bribery charges for falsifying marriage certs and cards

KUALA TERENGGANU: Three men, including two civil servants, were charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday for their involvement in soliciting money from several individuals as inducement to procure for them marriage certificates and cards.

The three are Mohd Yazuan Yatim, 32, Eirman Yusdie Ahmad Hanafiah, 35, and Mohd Raduwan Abu Bakar, 43.

Yazuan and Raduwan, both working at the State Religious Affairs Department, faced two charges each, while Eirman was slapped with three charges.

Yazuan was charged with receiving bribe amounting to RM1,500 from Raduan as inducement for him to procure a marriage certificate and a marriage card through illegal means from Eirman at the department in May this year.

He also faced a second charge of receiving bribe amounting to RM1,300 for both himself and Eirman from Raduwan as reward for him to hand over to the latter, a marriage certificate and a marriage card procured through illegal means, at Medan Selera Mydin Mall here at 5.35pm on June 19 this year.

Eirman was charged with receiving RM900 as bribe from Yazuan as inducement to provide for him a marriage certificate and marriage card through illegal means, here in May this year.

He faced a second charge of receiving bribe amounting to RM1,300 from Yazuan as reward to prepare for and hand over to him a marriage certificate and marriage card procured through illegal means, at Warung Pak Maidin, Pantai Batu Burok, about 8.40pm on June 19.

He faced another charge of fabricating the marriage certificate and marriage card between Mohd Nizam Adam and Nurzara Sofea Hafiz, as though both items were issued by the Pahang Religious Affairs Department, in Kampung Paloh and a shop at Jalan Sultan Omar here, from May to June this year.

Raduwan was charged with receiving bribe amounting to RM2,000 from Nurzahidah Yacop as inducement to procure for her a marriage certificate and marriage card through illegal means from Yazuan, at an auto-teller machine in Bank Rakyat Paya Keladi branch here on May 24 this year.

He also faced another charge of receiving RM1,000 as bribe from Nizam as reward for him to hand over a marriage certificate and marriage card procured through illegal means to Muhammad Hasleezam Sabarudin.

All the accused were charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and is liable under section 24(1) of the same act.

Yazuan claimed trial for both two charges. Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz set bail at RM5,000 with one surety, and fixed Nov 15 for mention.

Eirman claimed trial for all three charges, and the judge set bail at RM10,000 with one surety, and fixed Nov 15 for mention.

Raduwan claimed trial for both two charges, and Mohamad Haldar set bail at RM7,000 with one surety, and fixed Nov 15 for mention.

All three accused were not represented.

Deputy public prosecutor Amer Abu Bakar Abdullah appeared for the prosecution.
