Sabah graft probe: Another 10 released

KOTA KINABALU: Ten people have been released from remand by the Magistrate court here today, pending investigations into the Sabah Water Department’s multi-million ringgit graft scandal.

They were brought before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, who set bail for eight people at RM200,000 each with two sureties.

Two others were released on RM50,000 bail with two sureties.

They were among 23 people – engineers, assistant engineers and technicians attached to the state water department – arrested during the second phase of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s Op Water.

As of yesterday, 11 people have been released from remand. They included two senior figures within the department, a former top senior officer, a businessman with a ‘Datuk’ title and an accountant.

Another five were released last week.

Two senior figures were nabbed on Oct 4 on suspicion of monopolising government projects to rake in millions from the RM3.3 billion worth of federal funded projects to boost clean water supply in Sabah.
