Police hunting for man who torched home

IPOH: Police are tracking down a man who allegedly set ablaze his rented home, which caused the fire to spread to five other houses at Taman Kuan Woh Yuen in Jalan Bendahara yesterday.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong said initial police investigation revealed that there was a criminal element in the incident.

“The man is believed to have set fire on his rented home at No A-16 before the fire spread to another five houses. The man, however, fled the scene.

“We are still investigating and those with information on the whereabouts of this man, please come forward to the nearest police station,” he said in a statement today.

Sum also said no injuries were reported as the other residents managed to escape in time.

It was reported that the houseowner, identified as Miss Lim, was alerted by the suspect’s wife of his intent to torch the rented unit.

The suspect has been staying in the rented home with his wife and three children for seven years.

According to the wife, the couple have been fighting for three days before her husband decided to set their home on fire.
