MAHB open to discussion, welcomes all airlines to operate from either KLIA or klia2

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has extended a welcoming hand to any airlines that plan to utilise either Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).

The airport operator told Business Times that it is aware of AirAsia Group’s plan to move to KLIA and it is also open to discuss any airlines’ requirements to switch terminals if it benefits the airlines, subject to the available capacity at the Main Terminal.

An example MAHB gave was when it gave the green light to Malindo Airways to switch to KLIA from klia2 to suit the airline’s business model to collaborate and code-share with Middle Eastern carriers.

“KLIA and klia2 are part of the same airport network system, essentially one airport, hence we welcome airlines to utilise either terminals that will suit their business model and operational efficiency,” MAHB said today.

MAHB is the largest airport operator in Malaysia as it manages KLIA, klia2 and other 37 airports nationwide.

AirAsia Group, namely AirAsia Bhd, Thai AirAsia, Philippines AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, AirAsia X Bhd and Indonesia AirAsia X have expressed interest to move to KLIA from klia2 as soon as the revised passenger service charge (PSC) is effective.

According to the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), the new PSC will kick start January 1, 2017.
