(AFF Cup) Amri wants a win against Vietnam

YANGON: Captain Amri Yahyah wants his teammates to play without fear when they face Vietnam in tomorrow's AFF Cup Group B match at Thuwunna Stadium.

Vietnam, who beat Myanmar 2-1 in their opening match, are highly favoured to beat Malaysia but Ong Kim Swee's boys are determined to upset the odds for a desired result.

"We are going for a win tomorrow. A second straight victory will put us in a favourable position to qualify for the semi-finals," said Amri, who scored a brace in the 3-2 win over Cambodia on Sunday.

"The coach has prepared us accordingly to overcome the humidity (match at 3pm) and Vietnam."

Malaysia, however, are expected to take a cautious approach by packing their defence and midfield to frustrate the talented Vietnam.

National coach Ong Kim Swee is likely to rotate the 5-4-1, 4-5-1 and 4-4-2 formations during the match tomorrow.

Those likely to start are Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, Shahrom Abdul Kalam, Ronny Harun, Rizal Ghazali, Shahrul Saad, Baddrol Bakhtiar, Ahmad Fakri Saarani, Amri, Syazwan Zainon and Ahmad Hazwan Bakri.

If Ronny plays, it will be his first appearance in an AFF Cup match.

The centre-back was in the squad in 2007 but did not play a game in that edition.

Myanmar face Cambodia in the other group match at 7.30pm tomorrow at the same venue.
