10 foreigners carrying fake IDs arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten foreigners carrying fake identity cards have been arrested in Negri Sembilan.

The National Registration Department recovered eight fake documents and four that were genuine but none of which belonged to any of the 10 foreigners in the four-hour operation in two locations at 1am today in Port Dickson.

Investigations revealed the documents were bought from agents in Sandakan and Sipitang, Sabah, priced between RM300 and RM500.

The detainees – five men and five women, aged between 20 and 49, were rounded up from Kampung Batu, Jalan Bagan Pinang and Taman PD Utama.

The raid was led by the department’s investigation and enforcement director Mohamad Yusri Hashim with assistance from the Immigration Department, armed forces and the police from General Operation Force.

Director-general Mohd Yazid Ramli said of the 12 cases recorded from the arrest, eight were for using fake documents, three for possession of identity cards that belonged to other individuals and one for using someone else’s document.

“Investigations showed that nine were from southern Philippines and one from Jawa, Indonesia,” he said in a statement.

Yazid stressed that the department will continue to conduct operations at locations which the department has identified as hotspots with great concentrations of foreigners, where the propensity of individuals carrying out activities of falsifying documents, particularly identity cards and birth certificates, are higher.
