Telekom employee drowned after motorcycle crashed into canal

ALOR STAR: A Telekom Malaysia employee drowned after he lost control of his motorcycle and fell into a canal at Kampung Pulau Kechil, Tunjang in Jitra yesterday.

His body was recovered at 11am today after a passer-by spotted the body and reported it to the Fire and Rescue Department.

It is learnt that the victim, Muhammad Hisyamuddin Ahmad, was returning to his house in Kampung Hutan Getah, Tunjang when the incident occurred.

His mother, Fatimah Awang, 63, said her son left their house for work at 9pm yesterday but failed to return home.

“I was shocked when someone came to the restaurant where I work and told me that my son had died,” she said.

According to Fatimah, Hisyamuddin is the youngest of five siblings, was buried at Kampung Pulau Kechil Muslim cemetery this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hisyamuddin’s girlfriend Nurul Atikah Nordin, 17, said she last saw him two days ago when he came to her house.

“He usually would send WhatsApp messages to me upon returning home from work but the message I sent him last night was not replied,” she said.

According to Nurul, they had planned to get engage next year and they have known each other for three years.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendant Abd Hadi Hassan when contacted, confirmed the incident.

He said the victim’s body was sent to the Jitra Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

The case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
