(Badminton) Jin Wei beats fourth seed to check into Macau Open second round

KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Jin Wei staged a superb upset on Wednesday to check into the second round of the Macau Open.

The 2015 World Junior Champion kept a cool head to send fourth seed Hsu Ya ching of Taiwan packing with a 25-23, 17-21, 21-11 win in the first round.

"Jin Wei played really well. Despite losing the second game, she seemed very relaxed and was very comfortable with the shuttle.

"I just want her to maintain this level of focus. She shouldn't face any problem in the next stage, but I don't want to underestimate anybody," said national women

singles coach Rony Agustinus.

Jin Wei, will play Indonesia's Rusydina Antardayu Riodingin on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals.

Fifth seed Tee Jing Yi also cruised into the second round with a 21-12, 21-10 win over Indonesia's Erlina Kurnianti. Jing Yi, plays China's Chen Xiaoxin next.

In mixed doubles, top seeds Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying stayed on course with a comfortable 21-17, 21-19 win over Indonesia's Fernando Kurniawan-Devi Tika Permatasari.

The Malaysian No 1 will play qualifiers Wang Chi Lin-Lee Chia Hsin of Taiwan next, while Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing who also got off to a first round win, face Hong

Kong's Ho Wai Lun-Yuen Sin Ying.

Also through to the second round were men's duo Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and independent pairs Hoon Thien How-Teo Kok Siang and Lim Khim Wah-Ong Jian Guo.
