HULU TERENGGANU: A 23-year-old man who went missing while swimming in Sungai Tiam, Lake Kenyir here has been found dead.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Adli Mat Daud said the body of Amir Helmi Azmi was found by divers from the State Fire and Rescue Department at 10.05am today.
He said the victim's remains were sent to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital for a post-mortem.
Amir went missing at around 2.25pm yesterday while swimming in the river with his friends.
A search and rescue (SAR) team was immediately deployed to the scene, but efforts to locate him yesterday failed.
Adli said people should be mindful of safety while visiting recreational areas near rivers and waterfalls during the monsoon season.
