Four stranded slipper-wearing teen hikers rescued from Bukit Bakong

IPOH: Four teenagers who went hiking at Bukit Bakong, Tanah Hitam learnt a hard lesson today on the importance of wearing the right footwear when engaging in outdoor activities.

The four friends went up the hill this morning but were left stranded after one of them seriously hurt his left heel while hiking downhill.

Ipoh Fire and Rescue Department operation chief P. Sumasuvam said the department was alerted on the incident at 10.08am today.

Sumasuvam said upon arrival, the team spotted the injured hiker, Muhammad Nur Hidayat Mohamad Khairul, 15, in pain from the injury.

"We then realised that the teenagers were wearing slippers while hiking. Some of the sandals they have on are pretty worn out.

"It is not advisable for hikers to wear slippers for outdoor activities such as this because of the incline and uneven surface," he said.

Sumasuvam added that 11 firemen were dispatched to the scene to rescue the teenagers.

"We have sent the injured teenager to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for further treatment." he said.
