More taxi services will benefit Klang Valley folk

A NEW taxi service for women kicked off in Subang Jaya in October.

Will retired men do likewise to kick-start a personalised taxi service in town?

There are already those who drive taxis for Uber or Grab.

Being self-employed, they could do it in their free time by registering with the ride-sharing networks.

It looks like operating a taxi is a viable and lucrative business in the Klang Valley and other parts of the country.

And, most importantly, the taxi drivers can work part-time, a bonus for retirees and those who have other businesses.

But for those who are free, they can do it full time.

So, it is common to see a group of male retirees starting a taxi service in the Klang Valley. The public will benefit from more choices.

The new taxi service run by male retirees could be used to ferry office workers and students in the Klang Valley. This is something like a door-to-door service, which should make travels safer.

In Moscow, a motorist will pull over to pick up a passenger when he or she is seen hailing a car.

This service is widely used by the locals and foreign students, who find it convenient and the fare is usually reasonable.

Indeed, the local passengers know roughly how much to pay the motorist. But there are some drivers who will ask for more.

More often than not, you will accept the ride, especially when you are in a hurry.

In Malaysia, it is great to have a women’s group operating a taxi service, calling themselves “RIDING PINK”. It’s a personalised and exclusive taxi service for female travellers in the Klang Valley, and uses
Subang Jaya as its base.

Kudos to the women.

Well, here is something that needs to be taken care of.

For the safety of taxi riders, it is vital to:

ENSURE that passengers have insurance coverage;

ENSURE that the car is safe to ferry passengers and that it is not older than nine years;

ENSURE the driver has a clean bill of health;

ENSURE the driver’s name, home address, phone numbers and the car registration numbers are displayed in full view of the passenger; and,

ENSURE a recent photo of the driver is affixed to the documents.
