Two Indonesian men arrested in connection with abduction of baby girl

TAWAU: Tawau police have arrested two Indonesian men to help with the investigation involving the abduction of an eight-month-old baby girl from her house in Kampung Rawa Rawa, Batu 4, yesterday morning.

Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Fadil Marsus said following the arrest of the two suspects aged 37 and 38 years, several other arrests would be made to assist with the investigation.

He said the arrests were made after the victim was found abandoned at the back of an empty shop at Batu 24, Jalan Apas, by her aunt at about 8pm.

Fadil said the victim’s aunt had contacted the suspects and the baby was freed after her father was believed to have paid the suspects. He was said to have sent Rp100 million (RM33,332.58) to a bank account under the name ‘Syamsul’.

The transaction is believed to be payment for drugs debt,” he said in a statement here today.

Fadil said initial investigations revealed that the baby was believed to have been abducted after the baby’s father, who is currently in prison in Samarinda, Indonesia, is believed to have introduced a buyer from Indonesia to the drug dealers but the buyer later disappeared.

“As a result, two individuals named Jai and Iskandar met with the victim’s mother several times to claim the money as a form of compensation, leading to the victim being abducted,” he said.

Yesterday it was reported that a baby girl was abducted by a man from her house in Kampung Rawa-Rawa, Batu 4, here. Her disappearance was realised by her aunt at about 6.15 am.

The incident is believed to be linked to the suspects who demanded RM100,000 in connection with the drugs debt of the victim’s father. —BERNAMA
