Routine police patrol leads to arrests of men in connection with drug offences

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police arrested a 36-year-old convicted drug addict for possession of syabu during a routine crime prevention patrol at Jalan Jati 11 in Taman Nusa Bestari here yesterday.

The man, who has eight previous drug-related records, was spotted acting suspiciously near the housing estate by policemen from the motorcycle patrol unit (URB).

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said the policemen found syabu on the man and he was arrested to facilitate investigation under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In a separate incident yesterday, a man who attempted to evade the URB along the Bukit Indah Highway was stopped for inspection.

The policemen discovered that the man was on the police's wanted persons list in connection with a drug offence in Gelang Patah.

He was arrested to facilitate investigations Section 12 (2) of the same act.

He gave the assurance that the informants' identity would be kept confidential.
