KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of Malaysians have gathered outside the Kompleks Bunga Raya at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to send off Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, who is flying home to Kedah today.
The Kedah Sultan, who ends his five-year tenure as King today, is expected to arrive at 9.30am to board his flight after a brief visit to Parliament.
Waving Malaysian flags, Malaysians from all walks of life have lined the streets awaiting the King's motorcade.
Dozens of youths have also donned colourful traditional clothing representing Malaysia's multiethnic and multireligious society.
Most interesting was the 'deployment' of two elephants equipped with the howdah, a carriage positioned on the back of the elephants to carry their riders.
Tuanku Abdul Halim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah, accompanied by the minister-in-attendance, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, will fly to Kedah in the government's executive jet, escorted by three F/A18 fighter jets from the KLIA.
