2 M'sian tourists injured in deadly Jordan castle shootout: Wisma Putra

PUTRAJAYA: Eighteen Malaysian tourists who were at Karak Castle in Jordan when a shootout took place yesterday are safe, but two suffered injuries.

Wisma Putra said the 20 were brought to safety by Jordan security forces and are being sheltered and provided assistance by the local authorities.

Two of the Malaysians who were injured received treatment at a nearby hospital and are reported to be stable.

Wisma Putra said the Malaysian embassy in Amman had contacted Jordan authorities, who confirmed that the Malaysian visitors are in a secure location.

It said the embassy had also issued a reminder to Malaysians, particularly students at Mu'tah University near Bandar Karak, to abide by security orders issued by the authorities and the embassy itself.

The attack on Karak Castle in Karak Town, located 132 kilometres to the south of Amman, the capital of Jordan, resulted in the death of a tourist from Canada and a number of Jordanian police personnel.

No party has claimed responsibility for the attack. -- Bernama
