Langkawi Tourism Association lodges police report over project delay

LANGKAWI: Fed-up over the delay in the Pantai Chenang road-widening project, the Langkawi Tourism Association (LTA) today lodged a police report on the matter following traffic jams and air pollution, which have affected their business.

LTA chairman Zainudin Kadir, who filed the report at the Langkawi police headquarters this morning, urged the authorities to investigate the project following grouses aired by its members and the public.

Zainudin said the project was scheduled to be completed in June but the contractor failed to deliver.

"We have received so many complaints from hoteliers, as well as business and tourism operators in Pantai Chenang that their businesses are affected by the project delay.

"We are also getting complaints from locals and visitors to this island, who claim that the ongoing construction works not only cause an eyesore for Pantai Chenang but also disrupt their daily lives and vocation here," he told pressmen after lodging the police report.

Zainudin said LTA had attended several meetings with relevant government agencies and the project contractors but the matter has still failed to be resolved.

"So we decided to come forward to lodge a police report and if there are still no changes, we will refer this matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"Our last resort will be to send a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak asking for his intervention," he said.

Zainudin said some 300 LTA members would follow suit to file separate police reports over the issue soon.
