Police seize pistol, machetes, fake grenade in Perak drug raid, eight men nabbed

TELUK INTAN: Police detained eight men after they seized a pistol, bullets, fake hand grenade, imitation pistol, machetes and drugs during a raid at a workshop in Labu Kubong here on Dec 27 last year.

Bukit Aman (Federal Police) Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said in the 1.30am raid, police picked up the suspects, all of whom aged between 25 and 35.

The integrated operation involved police personnel from the Hilir Perak NCID, State Police Contingent NCID and the Bukit Aman’s Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting).

“We have seized a .22 Revolver, an imitation pistol, a fake hand grenade, 49 9mm bullets, a pair of handcuffs, two bullet magazines and six machetes.

“Also seized were 163gm of ganja (marijuana), syabu (55gm) and heroin (25gm),” he told a press conference at the Hilir Perak Police District headquarters here today.

Also present were Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan, State CID chief Datuk Gan Tian Kee and Hilir Perak police chief ACP Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad.

Mohd Mokhtar said four of the suspects had criminal records and they were now being remanded until Monday to facilitate investigation.

All of them, who were tested positive for drugs, were among 99 people detained in the three-day narcotics operation, he said.

Mohd Mokhtar also said police had raided 86 locations in the district and seized various types of drugs worth RM7,078, as well as firearms.

He said of the 99 people arrested, five were Cambodians, Myanmar (eight), Thailand (three) and Indonesia (two). --BERNAMA
