Two trailers collide injuring both drivers, 4km-jam on PLUS

TAIPING: A trailer driver was severely injured when his heavy vehicle, loaded with aluminium coils, rammed into another trailer transporting machinery at Km 216.9 northbound on the North-South Expressway early this morning.

In the 4.40am accident, A. Supermaniam, 42, broke his feet, left hand and left shoulder, while the other trailer driver, Sailani Nasir, 54, suffered minor injuries.

Both trailers had been heading north from Ipoh.

Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Harith Kam Abdullah said both drivers were sent to the Taiping Hospital for treatment, and that police are continuing investigations to identify the cause of incident.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.

Meanwhile, a PLUS Malaysia Bhd spokesperson said that due to the accident, the right lane of the highway is obstructed, and motorists are being diverted to the Changkat Jering Toll Plaza.

The accident has caused a traffic jam stretching four kilometres.

The spokesperson said that as of 10.30am, traffic is slow moving, although contra lanes have been opened to ease traffic flow.
