Teen dies, run over by lorry in three-vehicle accident

JOHOR BARU: An 18-year-old was killed when he was run over by a lorry in a three-vehicle accident at Km17 of Jalan Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi today.

Mohd Farhan Kassim, riding pillion on a motorcycle, died instantly from serious head injuries in the 1pm incident. The teen, who is from Masai, was working at the food court in Aeon Tebrau .

The incident which happened on the Johor Baru-bound lane stretch of the road, involved a Honda Wave motorcycle, a lorry and a Toyota Hilux.

Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Jokhiri Abd Aziz said the crash was believed to have occurred when the motorcyle Farhan was on, grazed and hit the left side mirror of the Hilux.

Jokhiri said the accident caused Farhan and the motorcyclist to fall off the machine with both landing in the middle of the road.

At the same time, the driver of a lorry on the left lane heading their way was unable to stop in time. The lorry ran over Farhan, who died on the spot from severe head injuries.

The incident caused a massive traffic congestion as police and authorities had to extricated the body from under the lorry.

The motorcyclist, who has yet to be identified by police broke a leg and was sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment. None of the other motorists in the crash were injured.

Since then a photo of Farhan’s blood-stained body under the lorry has appeared on several Facebook pages with some users thinking that he was still a student, as his clothes somewhat resembled that of a school uniform.
