KINABATANGAN: A block of dormitory building and a classroom of SK Pekan Tongod here were completely destroyed by fire yesterday evening.
District Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the team was was alerted at 6.37pm but only arrived at the location about two hours later.
He said seven personnel were despatched to the area, located about 163 kilometres from the station.
"The dormitory and wooden structure classroom were burned down before our arrival.
"Our personnel only managed to extinguish the remaining embers."
Meanwhile, state Education Department director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul said there were 29 boys and 32 girls staying at the affected hostel. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
She added that no casualties were reported and all the students were safe.
