KUALA LUMPUR: A morbidly obese man who was leaving a surau after Zuhur prayers tripped and fell down a flight of stairs and was knocked unconscious.
The 20-year-old man, who weighs approximately 230kg, had gone to the Taman Permata surau in Selayang, and was in the process of leaving when he lost his balance and fell.
Others at the surau rushed to his aid, and when it was noticed that the man was not moving and could not be roused, an emergency call was made.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said one fire truck and an Emergency Response Medical Services team were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.38pm.
Due to his size, the operation to move the man had to be done with great care.
“The victim may have injured his spine, as he was not able to lie back during the trip in the ambulance,” Sani said.
The man was taken to the Selayang hospital for treatment. His condition has not yet been determined.
