New state traffic police chief takes reins in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Johor welcomed a new state traffic Police Chief Superintendent today.

Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, Johor Traffic Enforcement and Investigation department chief, succeeds Superintendent Baharuddin Mat Taib.

A handing-over-of-duties ceremony was held at the Johor police headquarters this morning – an event witnessed by Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, his deputy Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad, Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat and senior ranking officers.

Dzulkhari, who has served in the force since 2000, has experience in several state police headquarters, including in Malacca, Kuala Lumpur and the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

For the past three years, he was in charge of the licensing division at Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.

He is no stranger to Johor, however, as he was an investigating officer at the former Johor Baru district police headquarters (before it was split into the Johor Baru Utara and Johor Baru Selatan district police in 2001).

"I pledge to continue the good efforts of my predecessor on maintaining traffic control and order in the state," said Dzulkhairi.

His predecessor, Baharuddin, who held his position for two years, has been promoted to Sepang as the new deputy district police chief.

Among the highlights of Baharuddin’s career in Johor was overseeing traffic enforcement for Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's wedding in Oct 2014; and Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's coronation in March 2015.
