MACC seizes RM1.1 million cash from PWD engineer [VIDEO]

ALOR STAR: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today seized a staggering RM1.1mil cash from the home of a senior civil servant, remanded earlier today on graft investigation.

Kedah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohamad said cash found is believed to be just a part of the RM3mil in kickbacks, which the senior engineer with the state Public Works Department (PWD), has received for approving road construction and maintenance contracts.

Mohd Fauzi said the cash were seized from the engineer’s home in Kampung Sungai Daun at 3.30pm today.

“We had to smash down a wooden wall in the suspect’s master bedroom, which had appeared to have been modified, before finding the cash, stacked inside chocolate boxes and folders,” he told reporters today.

Earlier today, MACC obtained a week-long remand order against the 56-year-old engineer, believed to have been involved in receiving bribes for at least 30 roadworks related to contracts in the Sik district.
