Kedah MB at MACC for KFA's RM6mil bribery probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya today to have his statement recorded.

Sanusi is believed to have been questioned in connection with an RM6 million graft investigation involving the Kedah Football Association (KFA).

It is learned that Sanusi arrived at the graft busters headquarters in Putrajaya at 8.30am and was still giving his statement at 10am.

On Jan 8, Sanusi claimed he was the real target behind the MACC probe into alleged corruption in the KFA.

He claimed that the move to remand KFA president Zulkifli Che Haron and three others was a plot to tarnish the state's reputation after months of futile efforts to directly link him with any corruption scandal.

On Jan 9, it was reported that a menteri besar from a "northern state" would be summoned by MACC over claims of graft.

According to sources, the corruption investigation was made after the MACC received a report from a contractor who had been promised contracts in the state if they channelled funds into a football association's account.

Previously, the Alor Star magistrate's court granted MACC a three-day remand order against KFA chief executive officer Zulkifli Che Haron for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to RM6 million three years ago.

MACC also remanded two football club consultants and a self-employed man.

The funds were believed to be an inducement for helping a company owner secure construction project tenders for a racecourse and projects to manage, operate and maintain five water retention facilities in Kedah.
