Gun, other weapons, seized from trio of T'ganu drug addicts

KUALA TERENGGANU: Police seized a .38 revolver following the arrest of three drug addicts in Besut district on Jan 11.

State police chief Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman said police acted on a report by a 24-year-old trader who claimed that his girlfriend's ex-husband had threatened them with a pistol when they bumped into each other near a clinic in Jerteh on Sept 28.

Rosli said the 29-year-old suspect was detained following a public tip-off, and was found to be in possession of a ‘nunchaku’, a type of iron chain, at 8.30am.

"His friend, 36, who was in possession of a sickle and iron rod, was arrested one hour later," he told reporters at the Kuala Terengganu police station yesterday.

He said police found the .38 revolver pistol hidden in the tyre of a car which was parked near a hut, in Kampung Gong Penaga, Jerteh, and detained a 47-year-old suspect at 10am the same day.

"The suspects were taken to the Besut police station for further investigation to determine if the pistol had been used for other criminal purposes," he added.

Initial investigation shows that the trio tested positive for amphetamines and have a previous drug offence.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 506/427 of the Penal Code, Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1971 and Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapon Act 1958.
