(UPDATED) Five now in MACC custody over Felda RM47m graft probe

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of those arrested in a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) swoop involving Felda has now risen to five.

Earlier this evening, it was reported that two senior Felda officers, as well as two of its former directors, have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over an ongoing probe into suspected abuse of power.

One, a former company director, is a 57-year-old Datuk, while the other, 53, is a former deputy director.

In the latest development, MACC officers have picked up another suspect, this time a Felda administration officer, aged 33.

The suspects were picked up by MACC officers at several locations in the Klang Valley between 11.30am and 1.30pm today.

The arrests are believed to be tied to a sturgeon fish rearing project worth about USD$10mil (RM47.6mil).

MACC director of investigations Datuk Simi Abd Ghani confirmed the arrests. He said several documents related to the probe have also been seized. The four are expected to be remanded in a Putrajaya court tomorrow to assist investigations.
