Woman killed, two seriously hurt in crash near Kuantan

KUANTAN: A 34-year-old woman was killed last night when the car she was travelling in, while trying to avoid a dead animal on the road, crashed into another vehicle at KM50 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan.

The victim, Hamzatul Saira Juhari, a passenger of the Perodua MyVi, was killed on the spot in the 11.30pm incident.

It was learnt that the driver of the Myvi was trying to avoid a pig carcass on the stretch when the car skidded, swerved into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming Proton Waja.

The driver of the Myvi, whose identity was withheld, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Kemaman Hospital for treatment.

One of the Waja's occupants, Nurul Mardiah Mahusin, 31, also sustained serious injuries. Her husband Mohd Izuddin Razak, 31, and the couple's one-year-old son Amar Zarif, sustained light injuries.

When contacted, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh confirmed the incident, adding that police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
