Police arrest man for sharing Bangsa Johor identity card info on Twitter

JOHOR BARU: A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Shah Alam in connection with the Bangsa Johor identity card case.

Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said in a statement that the suspect was arrested at 3.20pm at an office in Taman Subang Perdana, Shah Alam.

“We also seized his Samsung Galaxy K Zoom smartphone and a SIM card,” said Wan Ahmad.

He added that the police will apply for the suspect’s remand at the Johor Baru magistrate’s court tomorrow.

Police believed that the suspect had advised Johoreans on how to obtain the Bangsa Johor identity card via his Twitter account under the name Tuan Syed Sigaraga @syedsigaraga.

The Bangsa Johor identity card post went viral on social media, prompting the state government to deny having ever issued the identity card, which also supposedly offers several functions similar to that of a credit card. A ‘registration form’ for the card was also uploaded online.
