KUALA LUMPUR: National rider, Khairul Idham Pawi kick-started 2017 by winning the Best Rider of the Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd (SIC) and the Motorsport Association of Malaysia (MAM) 2016 Awards tonight.
The 18-year-old, who will be racing in Moto2 with Idemitsu HondaTeam Asia this season, received the award following his excellent performance throughout the Moto3 race last season.
Malaysia’s professional racing driver, Jazeman Jaafar emerged as the Best Car Racer while Drift King, Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel won the National Championship Awards.
Meanwhile, Moto2 racer, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah bagged the Malaysia Motorsport People’s Choice Awards.
Project X Racing Team emerged as the Best Team for the two wheel category while the Sakura Tecdo Racing Team won the Best Team for four wheel category.
The ceremony saw two media practitioners bagging awards, namely Saiful Affendy Sapran (Harian Metro) for Best Journalist and Abdul Razak Latif (Kosmo) for the Best Photographer categories.
The first ever awards night also recognised and honour those involved in Malaysian motorsport such as Datuk Abdul Razak Dawood, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, the late Tan Sri Basir Ismail, Karamjit Singh, Alex Yoong, Ron Hogg, Shahrul Yuzy Ahmad Zaini, Khairul Idham and Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin. -- Bernama
