Three-vehicle collision claims life of one

DUNGUN: A 49-year-old man was killed when the car he was travelling in collided with a trailer and another car near Kampung Tanjung Pagar, yesterday.

It was learnt, Mohd Yashim Ali in a Proton Wira, was on his way to a mosque nearby.

A source said Yashim’s car skidded to the right lane before colliding with a trailer coming from the opposite direction on Km 73.9 Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Terengganu.

He said the victim’s car spun several times before being hit by a Perodua MyVi from behind.

“Yashim from Jalan Anak Balai Besar was pinned to his seat and killed instantly in the 1.25pm incident,” he added.

Dungun Fire and Rescue station chief Amri Mohammad said a distress call from the public was received by the station at 1.30pm.

“Five firemen in a fire engine were deployed to the scene and our men took 15 minutes to free the victim trapped the Proton Wira,” he added.

He said the Perodua MyVi driver and trailer’s driver escaped with light injuries.

Meanwhile District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said Yashim’s body was sent to the Dungun Hospital for a post-mortem.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987.
