MACC nabs Johor exco member to assist land scandal probe

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today detained a Johor state executive council member, Datuk Abdul Latif Bandi to assist the probe into a real estate corruption scandal in the state.

Its deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki said the arrest was made at 10.56am after the 51-year-old man had his statement recorded at the state MACC headquarters here.

"We have detained the state exco member to facilitate the commission's investigation on the case," he said.

Azam said investigation into the Johor land corruption scandal was far from over although the seven suspects earlier detained to assist the probe had been released on MACC bail.

"The investigation is still on," he said.

A total of seven people, including the son and special officer to the state exco member were detained by the MACC since Feb 24 to facilitate investigation into the case.

The MACC had also frozen RM15.5 million in 45 bank accounts and seized 21 luxury cars, five high-powered motorcycles and RM500,000 in local and foreign currencies.

On March 1, the state executive council allowed for a request from Abd Latif to take leave from his state government duties for an undetermined amount of time.
