Three Immigration officers nabbed by Johor MACC

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three Immigration officers and two civilians for soliciting and accepting bribes to smuggle foreigners through the Senai International Airport (LTAS) here.

According to MACC sources, the five suspects — aged between 35 and 46 — include a woman.

Collaboration between MACC and the Immigration's Integrity Unit led to the arrest of the suspects yesterday (March 5).

"The three immigration officers on duty at LTAS and the two civilians were separately arrested from 5pm to 11pm yesterday at the MACC offices in Johor.

"The Johor Immigration integrity team conducted routine compliance checks at LTAS and examined the mobile phones of the officers on duty, and found suspicious WhatsApp messages."

MACC Johor director, Datuk Azmi Alias, confirmed the arrests. The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

"All suspects were brought to the Johor Baru magistrate's court at 8.30am today for a remand application," he said.
