PUTRAJAYA: Police today detained a security guard suspected of having dumped the body of a newborn baby girl at a surau in Presint 9 here.
Putrajaya District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Rosly Hassan said police also seized a Perodua Myvi, believed to have been used to transport the baby to the surau.
"We inspected the Myvi and confiscated a grey sweater placed at the front passenger seat, believed to have been worn by the suspect during the incident.
"The suspect and the seized items were brought to the police station here for further action," Rosly said in a WhatsApp message.
The dead infant, with its umbilical cord still attached, was found stuffed in a bag in the compound of Surau Abu Bakar As-Siddiq at 8.30pm on Wednesday.
The body was wrapped in a piece of newspaper and a blue towel imprinted with the name of a Port Dickson hotel.
A note was attached to the bag, asking the surau’s committee members to carry out the necessary funeral rites for the baby.
Footage from the surau's closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras showed a man placing a bag at the back of the building.
Rosly said the post-mortem by the Putrajaya Hospital showed that the baby was a stillborn.
"There were no signs of injury on the body. The baby had died at birth, as her lungs showed no signs of respiration," Rosly said.
