(Badminton) Peng Soon-Liu Ying bow out of mixed doubles at All England

KUALA LUMPUR: Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying came so close to winning their maiden Premier crown on the Super Series circuit but their dreams were dashed by China's Lu Kai-Huang Yaqiong in final of the All England today.

The Malaysian mixed doubles, playing in their second tournament together this year, bowed out after winning the first game 18-21, 21-19, 21-16 at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying, however, can hold their head up high, especially following the latter's recent comeback after a knee injury.

The 2016 Rio Games silver medallist, had to miss the season opening Malaysia Masters in Sibu, and only returned to competitive action at the German Open last week.

Liu Ying who revealed she was far from her best, still managed to reach the quarter-finals before bowing out to China's Zhan Nan-Li Yinhui.

Apart from the Olympic silver medal, Peng Soon-Liu Ying also won the New Zealand Open last year.

Lu Kai-Yaqiong, pocketed US$47,400 (approximately RM211,000) in prize money while Peng Soon-Liu Ying settled for US$22,800 (approximately RM102,000).
