Kancil-Myvi crash claims life of teacher on the way to school

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 51-year-old teacher was killed instantly after a Perodua Kancil he was travelling in collided head-on with another car near Kampung Padang Air, Tepoh, here, today.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said the victim Rosdi Mohamad Salleh from Kampung Kubang Palas, Bukit Payong, Marang, was heading towards his workplace at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Penarik in Setiu.

Idris said Rosli had suffered from serious head injuries during the incident which occurred at Jalan Kelantan-Padang Air in the 7.05am.

His remains had been sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for a post-mortem.

“Initial investigation revealed that a Perodua MyVi driven by a 24-year-old youth, had skidded and veered into the opposite lane before ramming into the victim’s car,” he said.

He added that the MyVi driver from Kampung Pasir Tinggi, in Marang, escaped unhurt.

Idris said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.

Meanwhile Marang Umno Division chief who also the State Education, Science Technology and Transformation committee chairman A Latif Awang said Rosdi’s death was a great lost to the division as he is a former division committee member who had always been dedicated to the party.

Latif spent about 20 minutes with the victim’s family at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital forensic department.
