Education Ministry on alert as 47 new ILI cases reported in Perak schools

PUTRAJAYA: The Influenza-like Illness (ILI) cases in Perak schools stand at 512 today - with 47 new cases reported.

The Education Ministry of Education (MOE) has since been placed on high alert, said its minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

"The Perak Health Department has issued an alert notice to the state education department to report any new cases of ILI in schools. They will send us notifications from time to time," Mahdzir told reporters after attending the ministry's monthly gathering here today.

Describing the situation as "under control", he said most of the ILI cases have not brought about any complications to the affected students.

"According to the Perak Health Department, they are mild cases. No complications. So we do not need to quarantine the affected students."

At press time, Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Taayah in Ipoh has recorded the highest number of cases, with 230 of its students infected by ILI.

Next in line is Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) Ipoh, with 115 cases.
