SPM 2016: N. Sembilan candidates emerge as 2nd best national performers

SEREMBAN: A total of 499 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates obtained straight As in Negri Sembilan last year, with nine of them scoring straight A+s.

State Education director Rusni Ab Jalil said the state also recorded an overall grade average (GPN) of 4.79, surpassing its 2015 average grade at 4.90.

"Lower GPN indicates better performance. This is a success for the state," she said.

Rusna said the GPN in rural areas improved from 4.95 to 4.84, while urban areas recorded a GPN of 4.76, from 4.87 in the previous year.

She added that 12,974 students (or 85.8 per cent) of the total 15,129 candidates managed to receive their SPM certificate by passing the two compulsory subjects, Bahasa Melayu and History.

"490 students obtained excellent results (Grade A+, A and A-) in all subjects and nine students scored A+ in all subjects.

Rusni added that 24 schools in the state will have 100 per cent of students receiving their SMP certificates.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan announced that the state had emerged as the second-best SPM 2016 performer, after Putrajaya.

He also announced Tunku Kurshiah College in Bandar Enstek Nilai as the best fully-residential boarding school (SBP) for SPM 2016 nationwide, while Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Munawir and Sekolah Menengah Sains Perempuan Seremban here ranked fifth and eighth respectively.
