Five new ILI cases detected in Teluk Intan

IPOH: After announcing all 512 students in Perak stricken with influenza-like illness (ILI) have recovered yesterday, a total of five new cases emerged today.

State Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said in a statement that all the students were from Kolej Vokasional Teluk Intan.

“As an early measure, all of them have been isolated in their dormitory before we will allow them to return home, since the school break begins this Friday.

“Five throat swab specimens were taken from these students, of which two tested positive for Influenza A (H3), two tested positive for Influenza B and the other, negative,” he said.

Mah said that the state Health Department together with the Perak Education Department will be constantly monitoring the ILI situation in the state.

“The school authorities should also remind their students to get early treatment if they are found to have ILI symptoms before allowing them to go home,” he added.
